Okay so its a 4 day weekend, (thank you queenie!) you've racked up 25 hours of mouse mashing on Diablo 3, new comics aren't out til Wednesday and you've managed to watch a whole two seasons of Smallville while eating your body weight in noodles and nachos. Sound familiar? No? Just me? You won't want to know about this awesome app then will you?
I don't know about you guys but pretty much every single one of my hobbies or things i enjoy involve sitting down (playing games and reading mostly). As a result i'm rather a large lass, i tried going to the gym last year, i went swimming every other day, got up at the crack of dawn for a jog. This lasted about a week before i got bored and the idea of just walking to the gym seemed like too much effort, let alone doing anything once i got there. I lack motivation. Even getting aroud to writing this blog took me two weeks.
This was before Zombies, run!
Zombies, Run! is a new app for Iphone, Ipod touch and (as of June 14th) Android. It is, in theory a running app, it tells you your pace, how far you've run and for how long etc like any good running app would, but this is so much more.
So, you're wearing your joggers that haven't seen the light of day for a good few years (suprised they still fit you? I know i was) you've got your running shoes on, your headphones in and you're ready to go! Just slide the "slide to run" button, define a few settings (e.g chose your playlist you'd like playing inbetween broadcasts, decide weather you want your run measured using GPS or the accelometer and then decide if you want Zombie mobs on, which will mean even more zombies attacks!)
So you're off! Running (or walking, as i was) along quite happily when not even a 5 minuites in you're hear your first zoms, your helicopter has crashed, they're after you, there's a voice shouting in your ear, RUN RUN RUN!
And run i did. I live on a fairly large estate, i don't really know my way around and actually paincked and ran to the point of me getting lost in some fields i didn't know i could get to. THAT is how good the audio is. Nothing to get you running like the sound of a zombie (or 50) behind you reaching out for your brains. The voice (usually) on the other end is Sam Yao, an awkward, fairly funny, young sounding guy who designates you "runner 5" after guiding you back to the town of Abel where is works communications. The team of "runners" from Abel township are sent out to collect supplies and run other errands that usually involve running outside of the camp. You pick up supplies just by running, its as simple as that, then when you get back you can open up the app and designate supplies to different areas of the camp that you think need it, the more you "level" these areas with supplies the larger the town's population grows and the more missions you can unlock.
I can not reccomend this app more highly, especially to anyone who lacks the motivation to actually get out there and exercise, even if you hate exercise in fact, just get the app for the story line, you'll feel more like you're living through a zombie apocolypse then actually exercising half the time. I'm very self concious around people but just yesterday i ran past our post man, two people walking their dogs (one of which is a customer at the pet shop i work in!) and a farmer, giggling like a crazy person on crack while absoloutley terrified, with the occasional "crap crap crap"the game is so immerseve i can't even begin to explain.

And you know what the best thing is? You'll want to run again and again. After my first run i got back and already wanted to go out again (if i hadn't felt like my lungs were about to impolde i probably would). You want to get out and live through more of the story line and improve your pace and run faster and longer than you did the day before.
So splash out the £5.99 on the apple store (or wait a couple of days for the android if needs must?) and get running! There is so much more to this app then i explained here (supply missions, radio mode, zombie link etc) and if nothing i wrote made sense check out the video below!! (infact check it out anyways)
